Georgia business resources for veterans

As we approach Memorial Day, I find myself revisiting my great appreciation for the Veterans who proudly served our country. My and my husband’s families are proud military families with veterans spanning all forces and wars since World War II. So, saying “thank you for your service” again this year just doesn’t seem like enough. Instead, I have gathered some information for Veteran entrepreneurs that I hope you will find helpful.

Many of you have successfully transitioned to the civilian economy and are flourishing. Some of you may still need some help getting things off the ground and establishing your own company.  Either way, these organizations can help get you started and also help those of you who already have a business grow it with confidence.

The Small Business Development Center, care of the University of Georgia, provides business training and consulting assistance to veterans by improving profitability, expanding market share, and exploring export opportunities.

The National Veteran-Owned Business Association can certify your organization as a VBE (Veteran’s Business Enterprise) and link you with diverse corporations nationwide who are often trying to contract with Veterans and put out requests for proposals that you may qualify to apply for.

Affiliated with the Georgia Department of Economic Development, the Veterans Business Outreach Center (VBOC) provides entrepreneurship training through the Boots to Business and ReBoot training programs. VBOC works closely with the Small Business Administration district offices.

SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives) is the nation’s largest network of volunteer expert business mentors in diverse fields and is a critical resource for all entrepreneurs!

Any one or all of these groups provide free resources, such as how to apply for a grant or loan, mentorships, training and more.

As I mentioned in my November 2022 blog post, I believe giving back to the community is essential. Consider the resources above, and this free business plan template, as my gift to honor you this month. When you are ready to take the next step, keep us in mind. And stay tuned for more information about a new product we plan to introduce this year to help provide affordable access to high-quality legal documents.  It could be just what your business needs to reach its next level of success.
