Atlanta Athletic Club

The beautiful Atlanta Athletic Club is a private athletic facility in Johns Creek, Georgia, founded by members of the city’s Chattahoochee Hotel. The original home for this club was located on 10th Street where it remained until 1904 before moving down into its current location, where it is picturesquely framed with great views. In 1908 John Heisman came aboard as director at what would eventually become known far outside his state borders. He helped found an organization now among the most environmentally friendly places to play golf.

The golf club, founded in 1898 and located 23 miles north of Atlanta, has been home to some great athletes such as John Heisman, who coached at Georgia Tech before joining the club. The team’s success continued when they won third place in the 1921 Amateur Athletic Union National Basketball Championship. They defeated Lowe and Campbell 36-31 to take home its second consecutive title. The Tour Championship, now the final event of the PGA Tour season, is held at East Lake Golf Club. The AAC sold both properties and moved to a big site in 1967, where they would eventually come to Johns Creek in 2006, which has since been refurbished during renovations taking place there today.

The beautiful courses at AAC have been host to many memorable events in golf history, including the 1950 U.S Women’s Amateurs and 1963 Ryder Cup matches and an amazing list of other prestigious tournaments where great champions went down swinging.

The history of the AAC has seen it host many different types of events. The first two Southeastern Conference Men’s Basketball Tournaments were held in 1933 and 1934 and a U-S Open Badminton Championship during the 1984/1985 season where 800 players from around America competed for victory on these courts. Then between 1990 – 1999, there was another stopover at ‘ATP Challenge,’ which is known today due to its success with hosting various professional tennis tournaments, including those run by former champion player Nole Williams; Jr.

The staff at Atlanta Athletic Club are proud to welcome you as a visitor or guest. They have outstanding golf, fitness, and tennis amenities for all skill levels and top aquatic dining with social events every day.

The Atlanta Athletic Club is a world-class athletic facility with an unmatched social experience. The two Championship 18 hole courses, nine holes par 3 courses, and fitness center make up one of the most modern facilities in all of Atlanta for both members who want to play golf or enjoy being outdoors on our natural landscape as well as guests looking at what they have to offer them inside – from tennis courts right through pools.
